MOSAIC - Changing Landscapes
A MOVEMENT CHOIR at Washington Square Park

The opening event for Berlin/NY Dialogues

The Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies®
In partnership with The Center of Architecture/American Institute of Architecture, NY Chapter

November 8th, 2007 from 4:30 to 5:30pm.

As the opening event of Berlin/NY Dialogues this happening takes inspiration from the creator of the movement choir format, Rudolf Laban (1879 - 1958), considered by many to be the father of German Modern Dance Theater. He was also an architect and movement theorist. Movement Choirs are an artistic articulation of the relationship between the individual, society, urban environment, and nature.

This movement choir brought together nine choreographers and 80 participants. The participants of a Movement Choir share in improvisational dance structures, which promote a basic need in human society: relating and constructing together. For the viewers, Movement Choirs are a thought-provoking experience, transforming individuals' perception of everyday social action and movement.

MOSAIC Event Curator, Kristi Spessard CMA and MOSAIC Artistic Director, Regina Miranda brought the Movement Choir's vibrant concept to life. The diverse choreographic team included: Joshua Bisset, Karen Bradley, Cheryl Clark, Frederick Curry, Mariangela Lopez, Regina Miranda, Martita Goshen, and Kristi Spessard.
